'Spem Fantasia' (Cello and Electronics) - 8' written for Peter Gregson, first performance Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh, 25 April 2008 7.30pm ...and an assortment of smaller pieces including 3 carols - 2007 Distant Memory (Violin/Cello & Piano) - 4' written for Simon Hewitt Jones and in memory of my Gran, Anita Hewitt Jones, also a composer The Lord's Prayer (SATB Choir / Cello solo) - 5' written for Peter Foggitt's new choir, the London Chamber Consort Jam (organ solo) - 5' I wrote (and performed) this piece at the London Festival of Contemporary Church music, St Pancras on 12 May 2007 'Kaizen Studies' (strings / wind) - 7' Commissioned by a new music ensemble in Cambridge, first performed at Fitzwilliam College Cambridge, 2007 'The Violin Player' (Violin solo) - 3' - 2006 In memoriam (SATB / orchestra) - 15' Sonata in a late-romantic Style (Cello & Piano) - 12' there are two versions of this, the second one pushes the boundaries quite a lot more in terms of tonality. Elegy (string orchestra) - 6' - 2005 'The Blue Cello Concerto' (Electric Cello / strings / piano) - 12' - commissioned by cellist Peter Gregson, first performed at Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh 'War' (symphony orchestra) - 3' - commissioned by Richard Stilgoe for one of his family concerts at the RFH. Performed by the Junior Academy orchestra under Peter Stark. - 2004 Fantasy (strings / wind) - 6' - first perf BBC proms chamber concert 2004 Is there something behind the icy stillness? (wind ens.) - 6' - 2003 Elegy (Piano and tape) - 6' perf. RCM composers concert / NYO composers concert Fanfare (Brass ensemble) - 3' Silent Moon (solo piano) - 4' this piece won the BBC young composer competition that year - 2002 Organ Concerto (String orchestra / Red. wind / Perc / Organ) - 13' this was my most major work to date and was premiered at St John's, Smith Square in 2002. I played the organ part (the organ there is very loud!) Simulacrum (String Quartet) - 4' first performed at a chamber music concert at a barn in Shropshire but I can't remember where unfortunately! - 2001 'Intrada' for Organ - 4' first performed on the Royal Festival Hall organ and also broadcast several times on Radio 3 Chorale, Fantasy and Fugue (Piano quartet) - 8.5' Psalm 150 (SATB / org) - 6' - 2000 'The Endurance' suite (Fl. Cl. Hn. Tpt. Timp. Strings. Pno) - 12' commissioned by Dulwich College as incidental music for an exhibition held there about explorer Ernest Shackleton and his expeditions to the Antarctic. The suite was recorded and made into an album (the ensemble was conducted by myself and included players from the Royal Opera House orchestra). The CDwas sold in aid of the school - and had two pressings. Introduction, Passacaglia and Fugue (Cello & Piano) - 6' first performed at the Purcell Room, London in a Dulwich College chamber music recital Cantus and Fugue (Piano trio) - 7' Transparencies (amplified string quartet) - 7' my first outing into the world of electronic music. Looking back it was quite primitive (all that was available at the time was a box of digital delays) but I'm going to rework it sometime using more complex electronics. - 1999 Sonatina (Horn and Piano) - 8' Kyrie (SATB) - 4' Trio no. 1 v.2 (piano trio, rewrite of 1997 trio) - 8' performed at the Cheltenham Festival in a concert of works by NYO Composers. - 1998 Celebration Suite (solo piano) - 9' commissioned by Dulwich College Prep School for the inaugural concert of their new concert piano Fanfare for a Grand Occasion (School Orchestra) - 5' Snowdonia (Small ens.) - 6' - 1997 Trio no. 1 (piano trio) - 5' the first outing of the trio (see 1999 version) Romance (2 Cl, strings) - 6' - Pre-1997 A lot of scribblings - mostly contrived nonsense |
