6 August - NEWS: SECOND BALLET COLLABORATION WITH INDEPENDENT BALLET WALES Following on from the success of 'Under Milk Wood', Thomas has been commissioned to write a second ballet score for Independent Ballet Wales for 2008/9. This project, partly funded by the Welsh Arts Council, is an extremely exciting venture creatively. An album recording and a published arrangement of the score is to follow. Watch this space... -- 25 July - 'Child of the Stable's Secret Birth' to be published by Oxford University Press as part of their new volume 'Flexible Carols for Choirs' check back soon for more information... -- 22 June - 'UNDER MILK WOOD' BALLET GOES TO WALES MILLENIUM CENTRE, CARDIFF Independent Ballet Wales' tour of my new ballet 'Under Milk Wood' is in full swing and it reached a sell-out performance last night at the Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff. The dancers led by director Darius James are a really superb company and it was great fun to be there. If you haven't already caught the ballet, catch it in Swansea, Newport or London (see the diary page for details...) -- 26 April - PONDERINGS ON SPEM, SPAM AND SPEMCAST What a fantastic concert at Greyfriars' Kirk, Edinburgh that Peter Gregson cooked up last night - including a varied and interesting programme of music inspired by Tallis's 40-part motet. It was great to be a part of proceedings and it was a world first: not only enticing a sell-out audience at the venue, but also delivering a live stream online (to much acclaim among viewers as far away as Japan and the US, as Peter mused to camera in between pieces!) This is the kind of initiative that new music needs these days - and it was very exciting to have been involved. Oh - and he performed my piece 'Spem Fantasia' rather beautifully as well. - - 22 April - SPEM FANTASIA ON ITUNES! The enterprising cellist Peter Gregson's new album 'Spem', featuring works from his forthcoming concert in Edinburgh this Friday, simulcast over the internet, is now available on iTunes, and includes a specially comissioned work, 'Spem Fantasia', scored for acoustic/electric cello and tape. For more information on 'Spem Fantasia', go to the Works list. -- Jan-March - ASSISTING IN LA I recently returned from a little trip to Los Angeles, where I was assistant to composer David Buckley on his score to the forthcoming Jackie Chan film,The Forbidden Kingdom . Whilst there, I also contributed to Creek, a horror film that’s set to appear sometime between now and Halloween.
