Christopher Tinker - Christopher Tinker is an authority on the music of Imogen Holst, and his research has included the first serious stylistic analysis of her compositional techniques, which culminated in a doctoral thesis. His published work on Imogen Holst includes contributions to Tempo magazine, as well as to a number of
dictionaries including the New Grove Dictionary of Music. He has written about her music, including a Catalogue of Works, for the recently published book 'Imogen Holst - A Life in Music'.
Christopher was educated at the Royal College of Music (studying organ with Ralph Downes and piano with Peter Element), and later at Durham and Lancaster Universities. Following his first post as Organist to The King's School, Canterbury, he has held positions as Director of Music at a number of schools both in the UK and overseas. He is widely respected as a choral and orchestral conductor, and has frequently worked in both amateur and professional fields.
Amongst a variety of musical activity, he is involved with adjudication, Inset training for musicians, and works with Edexcel as a Moderator, and Thames Valley University as a grade and diploma examiner. He was for many years Secretary and then President of the MMA. He is also a composer, and his works include choral music and a children's opera.
He is currently Head of the Faculty of Creative and Performing Arts at St Joseph's College, Ipswich, as well as continuing freelance work in conducting and performing. He holds a Doctorate in music, is a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
